I can't find the precise Daizenshuu entry for zenkais, but if this description is to be assumed correct, near-death power increases, and I paraphrase, "imprint new experiences to lessen the chances of same injury happening again and likewise dramatically increasing their raw might after recovering from injuries." One could infer that the aforementioned experiences of contact with the severity and refinement of strength from the opponent who placed the Saiyan into that near-death state would act as the external impetus which the genetically inspired enhancement of survivalist strength is based on. Far as we know, these rapid upsurges of power only apply to that trauma and not any imperceptible threat at a large distance which the Saiyan hadn't even come into contact with. If that were so, Vegeta's first zenkai on Namek should have accelerated his power level to the state where it was at at the end of the arc. Instead, it was only enough for the damage suffered by Monster Zarbon, the one who first defeated Vegeta, to be mitigated and for him to be overpowered. This pattern seems largely consistent up until Freeza where the zenkais became inordinately large for no reason other than narrative convenience. If the previously mentioned mechanics applied, Goku's zenkai would have only been enough for him to surpass Vegeta while Vegeta would have only surpassed the Ginyu Force sans Ginyu.

The manga doesn't insinuate that Piccolo knew the Multi-Form technique. Strictly going by the original material, it seems as though he dedicated most of the five years to developing the Special Beam Cannon. We also aren't given an exact amount of power progression he enjoyed prior to directly training Gohan. I suspect he acquired much of his benefits from working with Gohan who happened to rival the humans after just four months of actual training.

My grievance lies in the methods which were used by mid-Dragon Ball characters to increase their power by only a comparably tiny amount being reinterpreted to allow for fighters who were excelling in the millions and having worked out in unearthly conditions to continue experiencing an impressive sum of returns. If this revitalised method is usable for Piccolo and Vegeta then I see no reason for it to not be applicable to other characters. Also, Vegeta was confirmed by Bulma to have been leaving for outside the city on his own to train.

Do we have a percentage to put to the amount of power Gohan earned relative to Goku's overall total? I can't recall a quantifiable sum in which SSJB multiplied the user's power or what the disparity was between Mystic Gohan and Goku (post-god ritual) without SSJB. And since we're on the subject of other characters rapidly ascending in power, SSJG Vegetto was already confirmed to have surpassed Beerus in the manga. The anime's rendition is debatable but I wouldn't have any qualms with a confirmation of Vegetto having surpassed Beerus as well. Concerning Gohan - his potential and capacity for rapid growth was already something to behold back at the beginning of Z when his power was stated by Raditz to exceed Goku's, with no training under his belt at the time. He later goes on to surpass everyone at the Cell Games when previously he was classified under the same banner as the humans. Following this, his potential unlock by Elder Kaioshin raises his strength to astronomical heights for an unfused character by raising it hundreds, if not thousands of times over (assuming the SEG's multipliers are in any way applicable). Does Piccolo's short training session with him seem far-fetched? Yes, but I would like to believe Gohan tapped into a reservoir of power that had gone unused as it was expanding following the Buu arc.

I didn't say that the increases were logical, only that they should be applicable to others. If you want a justification for the U6 Saiyans, I suppose you could attribute Cabba's power to being a result from working alongside a "mutant" such as Frost - the U6 counterpart to Freeza.

This the only thing I could find on Zenkais in the Daizenshuu.

Daizenshuu 4: Racial Characteristics

They power up each time they are revived.
They achieve an unbelievable power up after returning from the brink of death. They can rapidly increase their battle power by coming close to death through mortal combat and intense training. The stronger their opponent, the stronger they become. That is why they are called a warrior race.

Yes, the strength of the opponent certainly seems to play a part, but if you wanted an in-universe explanation for the drastic increases both Goku and Vegeta received, one could argue that Vegeta's body wasn't used to the instant healing effect of the Senzu, so his body had an unorthodox reaction to it. As for Goku, he's never been exposed to one of those medical machines before, so maybe the slow heal resulted in a drastic increase. Obviously head canon, but Daizenshuu's explanation for the Zenkai isn't given in the series proper either.

Well, looking at this in terms of a sum is the problem. I'd argue these training methods provide a percentage increase that result in a diminishing return over time. I don't recall it being mentioned at any point that Vegeta had trained between the events of Freeza's defeat and Freeza's return.

Well, what we do know is that Goku's Saiyan Beyond God state is stronger than Super Saiyan God. Super Saiyan Blue is, of course, even stronger than that. I would assume it's still a 50 times increase, but that hasn't been confirmed. It's even larger if Goku is stacking his Super Saiyan forms ontop of Saiyan Beyond God. I can buy a day long ritual yielding a thousand+ fold increase. I can't buy Gohan getting as strong as he did in half a day with a sparring partner weaker than himself. A ritual can yield whatever increase it needs because there aren't any established limits on said ritual. Sparring has never yielded such a drastic increase in such a short amount of time, and that's what this really boils down to. I can buy these characters gettimg this strong if the method and time frame are believable. Super practically goes out of it's way to make it as unbelievable as possible.

Well, sure, if one character gets a bull s*** power up, I don't see why all of them can't, but that's simply a compounding issue.

So we just take the horrid inconsistency of zenkai growth for what it is? Okay. Although I don't see why the same argument couldn't be applied to Gohan receiving his second zenkai through magical restoration arts courtesy of Dende.

It's confirmed by the characters in the manga.

The opposite might actually be true, at least if we're speaking strictly in terms of single participant wilderness training no sparring partners. Piccolo was only comparable to Freeza in his second form on Namek. Following the 625 day intermission, though, he feels confident enough to challenge a Vegeta who has been training just as rigorously to combat. For such a scenario to be remotely plausibly would have to entail Piccolo being within a not so large distance of the Saiyan Prince. His power would have likely needed to increase by over double; that's a far greater percentage boost than what the humans or Goku attained during the original Dragon Ball.

A multiplicative zenkai against an opponent who wasn't too much more powerful than yourself was enough to skyrocket Vegeta from having a power level registering at "barely 30,000" to rivaling Freeza's 530,000 within a matter of hours with no training to help reinforce the validity of the increase. Gohan was always famed for his incredible potential which even Goku claimed could allow him to defeat anyone if he accessed it.

Training with an efficient partner like Piccolo should yield highly impressive results for someone like Gohan. Also, if you read my comment in the topic relating to Piccolo's strength, I mentioned the fact that his projectile, while it collided when Gohan was off-guard, was still sufficient enough to cause Mystic Gohan to recoil in pain with some visible damage to his back. It's not as though Piccolo was so horrendously weak he couldn't hover in the same dimension of power as Gohan in that scene.

For what it's worth, I do agree. Although if I had any capacity to change it, the power level debacle may not have happened in the first place since the PLs would be more grounded, or at least as grounded as I can personally hope to make them. Of course, Goku and Vegeta would be remaining dead at the end of the manga, but that's a different subject.

I mean, I guess. It personally doesn't bother me because there aren't any established rules that would prevent those drastic increases.

Good to know.

I'm aware Gohan has incredible potential. Again, it's the method and time frame that I care about. Training with a weaker partner for half a day shouldn't increase Gohan's power as much as it did IMO. It's too ridiculous to be believed.

I probably wouldn't abolish the power levels system. I'd simply try to avoid all the power ups and transformations.

Not sure how much validity there is to the argument, but the difference between SSJB and SSJR is that the latter is derived from the user being considered physiologically deistic, not just in terms of their Ki. Is it possible this status could have granted an additional increase of power relative to what SSJB offers?
It's not ssjr that's the problem, it's base Black.

If ssjr and ssjb have the same or similar multiplier and base Black is stronger than ssj2 Goku, then his ssjr should be at least 100 times Goku and Vegeta's ssjb and then base Black was taking hits from ssjb Vegeta and managed to speed kick him into the dirt.

The problem is Vegeta and Goku (especially Goku) getting more than 100 times as strong to come back and face ssjr Black. My explanation is that base Black is naturally 'saiyan beyond God' because he's a Kai in a saiyan's body whereas Goku and Vegeta are using regular base and ssj forms and it evens out when they use Blue because the base to ssjb multiplier jumps it up to that level whereas blue and rose both jump the saiyan beyond god to the same level too but it isn't as far as they're already using godly ki.

Basically when they combine god ki with their base their appearance remains the same, when they combine it with ssj they turn blue.

As for Namek Zenkais, Goku and Vegeta simply reached a certain threshold where their power takes giant leaps from zenkais and then simmers back down so zenkais are smaller, plus after Namek, Goku and Vegeta were never really close to death again. Also, the zenkai increases the saiyan's max power right? Well remember that Goku's max power wasn't 90 000 when he went into the healing pod, it was 900 000 with KKX10, so perhaps his body took that into account. 900 000 to 3 000 000 isn't so farfetched.

I honestly don't think the writers know the implications they're making.

It wouldn't surprise me if after all this there's an episode where Cabba comes to Earth and has an evenly matched spar with Trunks.

It just seems that they look at the forms and that's it.

If they're in base they're relative, if they're ssj they're relative etc and forget that Goku and Vegeta were only ss1 for aaaaaaages and yet fought stronger and stronger opponents.
I've gotta agree with this

Kale is the real hacker here, not Caulifla. Caulifla obviously loves fighting and getting stronger and cabbe has helped fight alongside frost. They've got experience. Kale looks like she's never fought in her life. But if we're supposed to believe that her lssj form is around as strong as ssj2 Caulifla who is as strong as ssj2 goku at this point, then that means base kale is unbelievably strong regardless of two base theory or not.

That's why, like superperfectnerd said, the writers don't care about specific numbers. They look forms and that's it. It's all relative at this point and don't care about what the implications are. Whether base kale is high tier buu saga level or around ssjg level, it doesn't make sense. I can't bring myself to believe writers ever intended kale to be anywhere near either of those realms of power. That's ridiculous because even cabba and Caulifla needed to train to get to those levels. They don't want us to believe that. Even if Caulifla's base form is around ssjg there's no way kale should be at that point either

Unless this berserker mode she has has a multiplier of like 99999999x normal power

I don't think it's a matter of whether a two base system exists or not, it's a matter of whether there is even a power scale. Earlier in the series I would've said yes but at this point idk probably not
