Dragon ball super, the anime at least, has a power scale that totally takes a dump on dbz. This series is the definition of power creep. How much does it hurt Super itself though? I kinda feel like it doesn't hurt Super itself that much. It's more of just contradicting the rules the community and series came up with for power levels for dbz. Dbz was over 20 years ago. A lot of the time it's clear to me that toei does whatever they can to make things entertaining at the cost of making complete sense. I don't fault them for that at all because making things epic and badass has always been what they're good at imo. Of course from an analytical fan it can be annoying sometimes. We should've known going into a series that is mostly written by toei that this would happen. The original dbz anime was just like this. So much contradicting filler. So how much does it hurt Super itself compared to how much it hurts dragon ball in general? Edited by Ssj3vegito96, Jul 16 2017, 05:08 PM.

It just makes Goku and Vegeta seem like hard working underdogs compared to every other character. I mean at this point, if Krillin trained with Whis he'd be 100X stronger than ssjb Goku considering how strong other characters have become from doing nothing in particular that's different from how they've trained before. |

If you only watched Super and that was it then you probably wouldn't have as much issues with it. Itself it doesn't hurt, but as a Dragon Ball spin-off it makes no sense and it does hurt that. I agree with what you're saying. Still though, it's annoying that two characters that were trained by an angel that trains god is fighting even with characters they should one shot. It does hurt Super a bit. |

@SPN I disagree with the example but I get what you're saying. Goku is an underdog though. He almost always had the odds against him since the the beginning of dbz against raditz

He's an underdog compared to Vegeta but he's still a saiyan. |

The concepts of diminishing returns and superior training methods have always existed, but I think what Super fails to do is present convincing methods by which these characters get stronger. Kuririn is pretty much the only example that I look at and go, yeah, Kuririn's increase makes some degree of sense with that whole ghost forest episode, and training with No. 18. The other characters on the other hand don't make any sense. No. 17's increase in particular is many layers of stupid. No. 17 doesn't have a ROSAT, he doesn't have a gravity machine, he doesn't have a mentor, and he doesn't have a sparring partner. He has no excuse for being as strong as he is. Gohan's increase is also baffling. In like half a day, he's far surpassed his previous limit by training with someone weaker than himself, and after a little sparring match with Goku, he jumps straight from Super Saiyan 2 Goku level to Super Saiyan Blue Goku level. This series is undermining the work the characters had to undergo in the past to get as strong as they did, and that of course harms suspension of disbelief. These things have to be presented seamlessly, otherwise immersion suffers.
