Apparently it has the capability of reaching Alaska. US and South Korea are joining forces to stop any aggression. Thoughts? |

I'm impressed they can reach Alaska now, I wouldn't be surprised if they actually couldn't though. |

I think the best thing we can do is destroy them from the inside. Properly invading them would cause huge losses, their army is massive and well trained. Even if it's a small seemingly s***ty country with no money it'd turn out to be a big war. So turning their people against them would be best. Apparently a lot more people are realizing how f***ed up the place is, DVD's and things like that from the outside world have found their way in and the populace has questions, on some level anyway. Get a Blackbird on the go, shower the country with anime, documentaries and history books! |

No, just their latest. They test them all the time, they're just getting more advanced (which makes sense given the amount of work they're putting into it). It's pretty silly for America to be like 'oh wait, they can reach us now? better do something about it'. Probably shouldn't wait until they're on your doorstep before you start taking them seriously. |

I think we (U.S.A) may be over reacting in a sense or righteousness. We believe so much in freedom and the right to own weapons and have a powerful army but won't let other countries do the same? I think if we continue to attempt to limit and control other countries so that they are lesser than us, we may find ourselves attacked by a large group of enemies one day. |

Possibly but in this case North Korea's leadership is so f***ed up that they might actually attack someone. No use letting complete nutjobs have deadly weapons like that, the whole world should oppose that. And since the US spends a ridiculous amount of money on the military they're a good choice. Plus it seems fitting that the only country to ever use nukes stops it happening ever again, we don't need that s***. |

America honestly can't do much while Trump's there, he's just as bad as Un when it comes to all this posturing nonsense. The fact that their program has reached this point tells me that negotiations are the best option right now. |

I don't think that's possible. They are so brainwashed over there it's at another level. Sure, there is media propaganda in Western nations, and a lot of people are heavily influenced by the media, but in NK it's another story. They see, hear, and touch everything the state wants them to. If you listen to a lot of the defectors tell their tales on how truly powerful the Government is and the state-run media is in terms of propaganda and influence on the people, it really makes you wonder if they will ever view Kim Un as a tyrant. What's also important to note, is that they view Kim Jung Un as a deity, not just their leader. They believe that the Kim Jung family are descendants from the heavens to lead their people to paradise. I remember reading a NK news article where NK said they landed a man on the sun.. =\ The crazy thing about that, however, is that I'm sure there are lot of people in NK who believe that as true. I don't think it's possible to get the people to turn on Kim Jung Un. SK and many others could try infiltrating NK and try to stir up some resistance, but they would be killed if word ever got out. Needless to say, it's a sticky situation over there |

Why don't America make a deal with China so they can team up and eliminate the North? |

Because it's a two-way street and China aren't interested. I'm sure if that were a possibility, it would already have happened by now, but China hasn't shown any inclination to make a deal of that sort. |

A lot of them are being shown otherwise and starting to stop believing though, a media attack would do wonders. They're fairly brainwashed but not as brainwashed as people imagine, they're in the early stages of realizing how s***ty their leadership is and that most of what they get told is bulls***. I don't think Un can really carry the whole "Deity" legacy like Il did and that's probably why things are changing, slowly. |

Steve is right, it's a little of both. Living standards in North Korea weren't actually that bad in the early days of the Kim dynasty. They were ahead of South Korea in that regard for decades, so they had every reason to believe their governments boasts and teachings. However, living standards gradually declined, finally bottoming out with the famine in the 90s that killed millions and had people eating grass and tree bark. Since then, they may be brainwashed, but they aren't stupid. Their living standards quite clearly do not match up the the North's claims of being the best country in the world. They are shut off from the outside world, but not as much as people think. They do get glimpses into Chinese and South Korean culture through black market video tapes and illegal radio broadcasts and are able to see that there are other countries who are far and away from their own living standards and access to basic human rights. People there are unhappy and there are large numbers of North Koreans who silently criticise the government (even pre the famine of the 90s) with portions of them attempting escape and rumours of small revolts e.g. anti-Kim graffiti, small scale riots that are quickly snuffed out. However, even if they aren't fully convinced by their government's boasts, it's hard not to have subconscious leanings towards it when you've been taught it from a young age. They may rebel against the current government yet still hold partisan beliefs (e.g. deify Kim Il-Sung, but have less of an opinion on his offspring, which is a common thing among older generations). They are also an intensely patriotic people and even those who leave the country still identify strongly as North Korean and admit to lingering adorations for their country and it's leaders. They are also surprised to learn that America have not been the aggressors they are painted out to be. Like Piper said, it's a sticky situation all around, from the people itself to how to address the situation as a whole. There's very little black and white and a whole lot of grey. |
