I've seen the lord of the rings trilogy when it was in theaters but I was young and I would always fall asleep barely half way through because we saw them late and they were long as f*** So today I finally legitamately watched fellowship of the ring for the first time It was pretty good. I see why the movie is so long now. I didn't get bored once throughout the 3 hours and 20 minutes. The characters are cool, the story's cool, the lore is great. Seems like it had a high budget for the time too I think that some of the characters needed to fleshed out a little more though. Maybe I missed the scenes but where are the people like legolas, strider, boromir, and the dwarf from exactly? I know they met up in rivendel or however you say it but was it me or was there backstory a bit vague? Anyway, fun movie though Edited by Ssj3vegito96, Jun 12 2017, 11:14 PM.

Yeah I've always thought they had kind of a dry entrance, well particularly Strider/Aragorn. Especially considering how important some of them are to the overall story. No spoilers. Damn, this just makes me realize that we haven't had a fantasy movie/series even come close to being as epic as the LOTR movies. To me they're pretty much like Star Wars but not Sci-fi...not The Hobbit though. Other movies just don't seem to come close to being as grand. |

Yeah that's what I was thinking too. There aren't any cool medieval fantasy movies like this But yeah those guys are really cool and important characters but I don't really know their backstories. I assume we learn more about them in the next two movies so I didn't think it was too big of a deal |

I'm surprised that you're just now watching it, but yeah it's probably my favorite movie series. I really love it, after you watch them you should check out the Hobbit movies. Then if you ever have any free time I'd reccomend the extended versions for the Lord of the Rings, those are very good as well. You should also read the books! |

The books are fantastic. The most amazing world building I've ever seen from an author. J.R.R Tolkien was no doubt a genius. |

Did you watch the theatrical or full version? Jackson always has a moderately longer version. If you ask me, Tolkien's works would've worked better on a TV show format, whether animated or not given some of the crazy s*** that happens early on in this universe, even if Jackson did an amazing job with live-action and CGI... And then George Lucas'd it with The Hobbit movies. While not on par with Jackson's trilogy, the Rankin/Bass and Ralph Bakshi animated movies from the 70s are still also really good, superior to the live-action trilogy in certain aspects I'd say(Eru knows my dad would say otherwise). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hobbit_(1977_film) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Lord_of_the_Rings_(1978_film) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Return_of_the_King_(1980_film) I recommend watching these aswell. If you want a more complete version of The Hobbit that isn't the book, don't bother with Jackson's prequels, just read this comic:

Lord of the Rings is my second favorite movie trilogy after Back to the Future and right before the original Star Wars trilogy. I think it'll still hold up 20 years from now, it's that good. You should get to watching Two Towers and Return of the King aswell, I think you'll be pleased. As for Jackson's The Hobbit trilogy, while I don't think it's as good as the Lord of the Rings, I still think it's a very solid imagining of the books. If you want to watch them, watch the extended edition of the trilogy; They add a lot of awesome scenes that makes it worthwhile imo. |

I hear that the second movie is really boring and the third movie is the best. What do you guys think? |

Btw I think I saw the extended version. 3 hours and 20 minutes Could I skip or read a synopsis for the second movie? I hear that it's pretty slow and boring? And it's a long movie so I'm kinda dreading it. Excited for the third one though Are the hobbit stories action packed? |

...Or you're both, like me, or many, MANY others.
Don't skip the second one. Seriously. Who does that? Especially in a story as grand as this one? Who believes people when they say it's boring? That usually comes from people who can't keep up with a long arc or anything of the like, and you can. The Hobbit story isn't action packed, but Jackson added some unnecessary action in there for the movies when there was no need of any, plus a lot of nonsensical filler. |

Alright I'll watch it. So will I learn a bit more about legolas, arogorn, and the dwarf in the second and third movies? |

I guess you could say you learn a bit more about them, but keep in mind, this story isn't about them. Frodo and Sam are the closest things to main characters right now. The Hobbits in general are usually the ones who get the most screentime. |

Did they cover their history a bit in fellowship of the rings? I feel like I might've missed some stuff
