Why did some capable characters never learn to fly?
It's not like flight can only be utilised for combat purposes. It would also be incredibly useful in day to day life.

Examples:
- Chi-Chi
- Roshi
- Yajirobe
- Hercule (if Videl can, he can)

In their place, why would you not learn?

Why should Hercule know how to fly if videl can fly? She can only fly because gohan taught her.

Why does chi chi need to fly? She's not a fighter anymore

Roshi...idk

Yajirobe's probably too fat, lazy, and scared

- Chi-Chi: Gave up on fighting and was trained likely by Ox-King who didn't know it either.
- Roshi: Because the known style was sky dancing and it was a Crane Style technique.
- Yajirobe: Too lazy and probably didn't even care, could've learned it from Kami's training if he really wanted to.
- Hercule: Not sure, he probably could have and he should have. Seeing Videl fly you would think he would ask her to teach him, but it's probably better to leave a character like him the way he is.

Hercule is probably too lazy to learn it aswell.

Piccolo: Just how many people have you sacrificed?!

Cell: Sacrifice? Hmph, rubbish! On the contrary, it is an honor to become a fraction of my power.

Roshi actually knows how to fly. Its just he never bothered to use it imo

As for others, just how "useful" Chichi was to actually say her character warrants flying ability

Hercule was comic relief & human wrestler. Dude cannot fly, shoot blasts: which sets him apart from Z fighters.

Yajirobe ia lazy a***. He is lucky enuf to even end up stayibg with Korin

Why does Roshi need to learn to fly when he has Baby Gamera to get around.

Muten Roshi, Chi-Chi, and Yajirobe simply never bothered because retirement, becoming a housewife, and laziness respectively. Mr. Satan also probably lacks discipline to learn bukujutsu with how he stubbornly assists what the Z-Warriors do are all "tricks".

Most of these are pretty easy to answer.

Chi-Chi never learned to fly because she's no longer interested in martial arts. She wants a normal, peaceful family. And a normal, peaceful housewife doesn't need to defy the laws of gravity.

Muten Roshi is likewise retired from martial arts. He's old and has gotten complacent now that the next generation has surpassed him. As such he doesn't see the need to learn new skills any more. Besides, it could have something to do with the fact that Buku Jutsu is a signature move of the Crane Hermit.

Yajirobe is just lazy. He's skilled and talented, but has no interest in cultivating that talent. Plus, it's an easy excuse to avoid the battles to save the Earth that crop up all the time.

Mr. Satan has probably gotten complacent as the "World's Strongest Man". When Videl questioned his training before the 25th Tournament, he said "Why bother? I got this in the bag.", so it's evident that he doesn't do a lot of training anymore. Trying to learn ki control would probably take a lot of discipline that Mr. Satan doesn't have anymore.04
