The war that raged across the planet for six years. Quite possibly one of the easiest settings to think of for a video game and for good reason, there's not a single shortage of drama that can wrought out of it, and plenty of action set pieces one can have. From the Battle of Britain, in which the last light of democracy came this close to being snuffed out, to Rommel rolling over Belgium, and the desperate fight to hold the Wermacht for as long as possible, to operation Barbossa and the brutal conflict raged by the Germans and the Soviets. The Desert Fox against Old Blood and Guts. Hell you're not even limited to Europe and the Mediterranean Theater. The storming of Madagascar, and the defense of China from the Japanese Imperialists, as well as the war in Indo China. The hunt for the Bismarck at sea, and the pilots own famous battles in the sky. That said, we generally only see the European theater, and even then not that much of it, and admittedly I wonder why that is, and it's especially puzzling whenever I see people say "everything's been done with ww2" when almost nothing has been done with it. The jungles of indochina and the plains of China, I've only really seen one game really focus on the navel warfare like the harrowing hunt for the Bismarck once again. Is there anything you'd like to see in a world war 2 game that you don't see enough of or haven't seen at all? Maybe someone trying to smuggle jews out of the country of Germany during the holocaust with the help of various people. Or hell just some shooters set in Asia would still be a change, I like how World at War had a campaign for the Japanese for example. |

How about North Africa, Finland, Italy or China? So many underused fronts. |

I'm sure the fascists/rebels war over there in Spain would've been sooo interesting. Nothing but rebels running away, barely fighting back and getting slaughtered by the dozens. Jokes aside, I agree, there are lots of interesting settings in WWII where the conflicts are a bit different and more unique than others. |
Piccolo: Just how many people have you sacrificed?! Cell: Sacrifice? Hmph, rubbish! On the contrary, it is an honor to become a fraction of my power. | |

Yeah I wish games would explore more of it. On one hand I can kinda understand why they don't because for instance with my favourite WW2 game, Call of Duty: World at War there's 2 stories going on in the campaign. Americans and Russians. It'd be hard to have a game that focuses on more than two groups like that and still have a decent story. Battlefield 1...kind of does it I guess but each has only a mini-campaign so it's ultimately not that satisfying. It is kind of hilarious how it's a "World" war but we only see the same few sections. Playing through D-Day and the like will never get boring of course but...do something else. |

I think that there's potential in being a Resistance fighter in the game. It'd have to be a lot more technical than just run and gun, of course, but there were many prominent resistances throughout the war from the Ethiopian to the French. |
