There are cool and uncool people out there in this world. There are people who can fit into popular groups of kids in high school and there are people who can't and get left out and picked on forever. Could this all be genetic variation? Some people were born lucky and some weren't.

In some ways yeah I think genetics can play a role in how popular a kid is For example if a kid is good looking, which is genetic, that raises their chances of being popular |

I don't think anyone is inherently cool or uncool. The very idea of 'coolness' is subjective and what society judges as 'cool' changes from year to year; that's why there are so many different fads. |

It takes a mere second for treasure to turn to trash.

That's exactly what an uncool person would say. ![]() No, I really don't think there are any factors in place genetically. Someone's genes might make them look better and thus have a better chance socially, but, I'd say that's the extent of it. |

I'd say it is or at least the factors that can equate to coolness are genetic. Good looks obviously(though you can be cool without them, like me) but more importantly confidence and a hint of intelligence. Perhaps a bit of vanity too. You have to believe you're cool. If you think of anyone "cool" they're either confident or they have some sort of skill they learned to make them cool. Looks being variable. And it seems like a natural confidence works best, you can certainly learn confidence but it'll never flow quite as well. Especially if you're pretending. So yeah I'd say it largely is, the pieces of the puzzle are already in your mind just depends how they get arranged growing up. |

Looks definitely play a factor in perceived 'coolness', so that part is definitely genetics (although that also comes down to looking after your appearance too, which isn't genetics). The other key factors, personality and confidence, are a mixture of genetics and social influences growing up, so it definitely isn't all genetics. I'd probably say it's mostly not genetics, myself, since confidence and social skills are probably more important than looks in defining 'coolness', and those are both mostly formed outside of genetics.

If you deal in only in aesthetics, you could make an arguement but there is more to "being cool" than mere aesthetics. Especially when one then changes the society one is judging "coolness" by. |

Coolness is confidence IMO. You can still be rather unattractive looking yet be in the "cool kids group" if you act like you belong there. I saw that a lot in high school. Looks help, but it's more personality in my experience. |

Coolness is an expression resulted frm Hypothalamic (Master Gland of human body) secretion. Just like Oxytocin famously known as love hormone, or leptin which is satiety hormone. Coolness is more of internal physiology, expressed externally |

I think appearance plays in on whether you're cool or not. I also think eye-sight can play in, because kids can be mean to each other and it's a norm that if you were glasses you're a nerd and rather 'uncool'. I think if you're good looking you'll have generally an easier time becoming cool, but I also think attitude plays in (ie bad boy attitude). As for luck, I generally think you make your own luck but there's also karma. What comes around goes around and whatnot. |

I guess with coolness and looks, it's similar to money and happiness: one doesn't necessarily equate to the other, but it definitely helps. |
