Is witcher 3 overrated?

I got the game recently and honestly I think it's a little overrated. Don't get me wrong I think it's a cool game but I have some serious issues with it

1. The in game menu: Oh my god. Worst I've seen in a game lol. From the organization to size of the font

2. Fluidity: when im watching someone play it looks really smooth. Then I pick up the controller and it feels kind of clunky sometimes

3. Instructions: the instructions for this game are lacking a lot imo especially because this game has so much going on

4. Combat: it's mediocre. Overall it's not terrible but not amazing. The lock specifically is terrible though. I hear a lot of other people had issues with it too

The game's story and characters are cool. Graphics are nice and cutscenes were cool too. Exploring the huge world is fun. But when it comes to the actual gameplay, specifically combat, which should be a big factor when rating this game, it's just not that great imo

Dark souls 3 is hard just for the sake of being hard. That's fine. Witcher 3 is hard because the game just doesn't feel good to me. Idk how else to explain it. The instructions/tutorial for such a complex game need to better.

Personally, I like games that have a nice blend of depth and simplicity like dark souls and Zelda. This game is just way too complex

I know a lot of this comes down to opinion but almost everyone I've talked to in person had similar complaints. And a lot of people on other forums mentioned that although they loved the game for the story development and world they admit that the combat system, and some even said gameplay in general, was mediocre

So I don't understand how this game got the amazing ratings it did. This is not a movie or a book. This is a video game. Story development generally shouldn't be the main factor in rating a game. Gameplay is the most important

I give the game an 8.5/10 at most

What do you guys think?

Greetings. I will be your waifu this season.

I haven't played enough of it to give it a score but yeah I agree with most of this.

It's just not that amazing to play.

The quests and whatnot are great but having not played the others it's hard to be that invested in the world so that's not a massive plus if you don't know what the hell is going on.

Though it's kinda funny when you accidentally release some crazy demon that wipes out a village...not ma fault.

Overall I think it's a great game just the combat really lets it down, it's either too awkward or too easy, never in between.

It takes a mere second for treasure to turn to trash.

I think it is slightly. The visuals are stunning. In fact, a lot about it is absolutely stunning. The characters, the lore, the graphics. But the thing is, you are Geralt of Rivia. Once I learned that he has certain... patterns in his behaviour that stemmed from a book series, for instance, he will actively avoid getting involved in other people's conflicts, even if there is clearly a morally "right" side to choose. I.e. someone is getting robbed. He's really not the type of guy to step in and kill the robbers and be hailed hero.

So I started behaving differently while playing the game. I've been playing it casually just to finish it, not because I'm completely immersed in the rich lore. Warcraft does those two things much better for me and it looks awful in comparison.

Overall, an 8.5 out of 10 is fair. The graphics and audio are a perfect 10. The gameplay is a solid 9.5. The lore and content is a solid 9.5. The UI and some of those aspects, however, need tuning for the PC. I'd give them a 7 or a 7.5 at best. I've downloaded mods to correct a few things, though. As far as immersion goes, I'd give it another 7. I get really into it when I start playing it, but, after a break for a day or two? I can go a couple of weeks without finding where the hell Ciri is :p

No, next time you play the game, invest yourself in it. When I first played it, it was overwhelming and I stopped playing it for months thinking, "why did I get this game?". Then, after coming back to it and getting invested into the world (and doing side quests), I got the hang of things. When you play The Witcher 3, you gotta let the game guide you a bit, it's not that complex, that's what made me stop playing when I believed it to be, you just gotta give full attention to it, know what I mean? Besides, can you name 1 game with as much quality content (for main quests, side quests, and even the expansions) as TW3
Agreed on combat though, still don't like it that much

Crazy Awesome Legend

I don't like the combat and that was enough for me to never play it again.

Eh, I find him pretty crap now he just rants about the same s*** over and over again and mostly comes off as a whiny child.

Jim Sterling is a far superior reviewer in my opinion. His criticisms actually seem valid, WAB is just obsessed with everything being bad because of consoles and x-ray vision.

I find it hard to be invested in the game due to the gameplay itself, if it was a bit more engaging I'd have completed it by now. Haven't played it in many months.
It's the sort of game that I want to get back to and play but...well I might.

Hopefully this whole combat stance thing will be worked in to Witcher 4, best addition to third person combat in years I think.

Kind of a shame they didn't do something like that since it would make sense, Bear school stance, Griffon school and Cat school.
It's pretty perfectly set up to incorporate that in to it's combat.

I wouldn't say skyrim is overrated. The world was interesting like witcher 3 but the gameplay was also good

About Worth A Buy, I started watching him recently after the witcher 3 video. I think he's a bit harsh on a lot of games but I watch him because he's funny. His voice and his occasional rages are pretty funny

Check out Jim Sterling, he's basically the same but an actual proper reviewer. I got in to him recently having heard about him many times.

He's got that classic f***ed up British humour thing going on as well but is a better writer.

I'd say Skyrim is pretty over rated as well but only really because it's such a big thing in the gaming world, it's fantastic but nowhere near as fantastic and huge as people make it out to be.

Personally, when i allowed myself to become invested in the world, the lore, the characters and everything they had to offer, it was ine if the best games i have ever played. I absolutely loved it and have put over 150+ hours into it which i rarely come close to on most games. I think it deserves its hype.
