It truly was a Shawshank redemption

I just got back from seeing this in the cinema. Really enjoyed it. The plot was pretty standard (humans find dangerous alien), but I thought it was well-done. I liked how rather than just using a big, intimidating monster, they focused on the actual life form itself, how it worked/survived etc, while still being pretty damn scary. A couple extra thoughts:

Haven't seen it yet, probably won't watch it, but from what Tinny has told me, this seems more like a JC's The Thing/The Blob-type movie than a prequel to the upcoming Venom movie, which many people theorized for rather absurd reasons.

And from what he has told me, it's not that good. Then again we usually have very contrasting opinions. I'm not going to think too highly of it anyway if I end up seeing it, especially if it's just another attempt at capturing the scary feel of the movies it's getting its inspiration from, like John Carpenter's The Thing.

Piccolo: Just how many people have you sacrificed?!

Cell: Sacrifice? Hmph, rubbish! On the contrary, it is an honor to become a fraction of my power.

I didn't get the feeling it was a Venom prequel.

Yeah, I didn't really understand how it came up either. Just for some reason a rumor floated around that it was a venom prequel. Somehow. As for the movie, I admittedly have a significantly more negative opinion, it feels like they tried to make an in depth movie with characters, but forgot to really flesh then out and just left us with rather standard feeling shlock that doesn't know it's shlock.

My favorite part was probably the monster and seeing it kill, and I kind of wish there was more of that in the movie, sent on more than a few occasions the movie lost me with some strange things.

Not just John Carpenter's The Thing and The Blob, I'm getting lots of Alien vibes, Life's trailer even has similar music to the trailer of the horror classic.

Can't say much besides it looks like it has good CGI and it really feels like they're in space (the weightlessness). Not sure what Ryan Reynolds is doing in it though. I get it, Deadpool has made him into a worldwide known star, that doesn't mean he fits into every movie genre. He feels shoehorned it

It seems that more than just Tinny think the same about the movie, though this has never changed my criticism. If the creature is getting some praise, as unoriginal as it may be, I'm in it just for the monster carnage, so I'll share my thoughts on the Venom prequel stuff once I see the movie, I guess I might as well give it a try.

@Tinny

This article is pretty informative when it comes to the Venom prequel rumor: http://bloody-disgusting.com/comics/3428543/life-prequel-sonys-spider-man-spinoff-venom/
