About a month ago, we had a terrible storm blow through central Texas. Couple of tornadoes touched down and wind knocked over some patio furniture. The most interesting thing was that lightning hit a telephone line that feeds their house. This is where my luck started.
They used DSL. Lightning hit the phone line, went to their modem and blew it out, and because they didn't use wifi to connect the smart features of this Samsung UHD TV, it blew out their TV also.

They are impatient so decided to immediately go get a new one. Told me that if I fixed it, it's mine. So you hand an electrical engineer some electronics and of course he's going to fix it. It's a lot easier than that too.
I asked for the background story of what else was broken, and immediately knew that the ethernet port had been zapped. Sure as s*** I found this.

The component next to the D1001_LAN is blown. Probably a set of diodes or a regulator of some sort. If it deals with voltage, it could potentially cause the entire board not to work.
Next step, ebay, $40 board to replace it. I don't have the equipment to change out the part, or it would have been even cheaper.

So what have you fixed with electronics?

It takes a mere second for treasure to turn to trash.

I've modified multiple Klipsch ProMedia Ultra 5.1 systems with computer fans to help disperse the heat and replacing components to prevent failure. To be more accurate, I spliced a static pressure CPU fan over the heatsink and into the main power supply of the amplifier so that when the system turns on, the fan does as well and disperses the heat through the back of the subwoofer.

I had some experience soldering some higher quality components onto the board as well, but, ultimately the fan has given this system that has been abandoned by Klipsch for fifteen years now a lot of extra life and legs. Not really a fix, but, if you do any research at all into these systems, overheating resulting in system failure was the main reason Klipsch had to discontinue the product. The sound quality is quite amazing for a PC system and I'm glad I still have them. It was my first venture into this kind of thing.

I mean, it's nothing worth bragging about :p but I enjoyed the learning experience.
