So yesterday, I had the opportunity to go to my local Comicon today and it was pretty great! At first I didn't think I'd enjoy it but it was a lot of fun going. I took some pictures with some storm troopers (the 501st), and I bought some swag, not much, just a T-shirt, a Saber figure (Fate Stay Night), and a Blake figure, but I really just enjoyed walking around the area. Seeing the cosplayers, it was poetically the first time I saw... I guess nerd culture outside the internet and in person, heck, near the end me and my family I came with just ended up watching the crowds file in, pointing out cosplayers and seeing of we could determine who they were portraying. I think my favorite was this one guy that did Giorgio A. Tsoukalos, the Ancient Aliens guy, complete with the freaking history channel logo So I suppose for the rest of y'all, what do you like about these conventions? Are you planning to go to one soon? |

In Spain we don't have Comic-Con, but this is pretty much the same thing. I've gone to these ever since I was really young, always loved the amount of people cosplaying (and yes I have cosplayed in the past), and I especially liked meeting so many comic book authors, getting their autographs, or a picture with them, that sort of thing. I've never missed one of these, I'll definetely go this year, whenever it opens. |
Piccolo: Just how many people have you sacrificed?! Cell: Sacrifice? Hmph, rubbish! On the contrary, it is an honor to become a fraction of my power. | |

Things like this are why I still have faith in humanity. I'd love to go to it one day but probably not going to have the money or mental fortitude to do so for years yet, some of the costumes people make are astonishing. Like fan made ones not store bought. Sadly not much like this happens in Scotland so it'll require a big trip >.> The whole energy around the event sounds awesome, a bunch of people able to let loose and express their joy for certain entertainment that's otherwise "weird" or "nerdy" |

It is a really good experience. I've done London MCM yearly since 2011, and each experience was so distinct and yet so similar in that I was totally comfortable there. Reading and hearing about all the changes going on in comic-book culture, gaming culture and the like is interesting, but actually seeing it in person is astounding. Every year, something changes to reflect the changes that have happened in the industries. Most of all though, I've made a ton of friends there. It's so easy to just talk about your hobbies when you're around people who've paid a lot to be there to celebrate the exact same thing. |

I would love to go but I live in the middle of nowhere! My childhood best friend who indirectly led me to DBZF by getting me into my first forum ever when we were kids - late 2003 or early 2004 - (a Code Lyoko anime forum as I recall, this was my 2nd forum ever) is now a cosplayer as Vegeta. He also has done some of TWD and met some of the actors from that show. It's funny how different paths we took, but still ended as diehard Dragonball fans! If I'm ever drunk enough, I might dress up as something and go to Comic-con. The last time I dressed up was as a 90-year old man for Halloween. |

There's a small one annually where I live (at least I think it's annual), but I've never been. I've never really been interested in cosplay (doing it or seeing it) which seems to be one of the major draws. Plus, I'd rather just buy comics online since it's usually cheaper. I should probably go one year though, instead of just assuming I'm not missing much. I'd probably be more interested if there was a bigger one within a reasonable distance. |

I should really go to the Emerald City Comicon. It is the third biggest in the US apparently and is kind of next door (less than 20 miles) to my location. It would be a hell of an experience I'm sure. |
