So it's already decided that I'll be going to Japan in 2020, probably a few weeks after my graduation. But I haven't decided quite yet what all I should do there and where all I should go. I also haven't decided how long I'm going to stay. I know that I'll be staying for at least a month and I'll have a friend that's coming with me, but if I stay longer I'm not sure if he will. I may see how I like it there and decide if I want to stay longer or not. But what do you guys think. Where should I go and what all should I do there? And then how long should I stay in Japan?

Question #1: How much money do you have and how much are you willing to spend? (this is a question you don't need to answer here. It's for your own consideration)
Question #2: Do you have any responsibilities at home that would require you to come home at any given time?
Question #3: Why are you going to Japan? It seams like it is just somewhere you have always wanted to visit but have no pressing need to stay for so long.

The Answer to everything: I think you should stay at least 3 weeks if you can afford to that that. Adult life is time consuming and getting long vacations off from work can be a difficult task. Enjoy your youth, travel and explore! I'm still young but I always wished that I did more traveling and exploring and I'm running out of time as adult responsibilities take over my life.

I wouldn't say money is a big issue if I plan on staying for a couple months, I think if I were to stay longer then I would probably try and find a job.
Nope, I wasn't planning on being on employed until I graduated so I wouldn't have to worry about anything really. I'm currently not in a relationship either, so that wouldn't hold me back.
It's mainly going to be a vacation, but my friend and I want to also do a lot of evangelizing.

Yeah, I'm thinking one month might be the best option currently, but I don't really have anything holding me back in the US. Well, at least currently, a lot can change in three years.

Japan is expensive.

But to answer all your questions go to maid cafe. Worth all the money.

Depends on what you're after.
If you're after a cultural experience, I'd say Kyoto. If you're after food, Osaka.
While I'm not a fan of the city, Tokyo is also a popular choice for tourists and foreigners living/working in Japan.

Yeah, I'll likely spend a lot of time in Tokyo. That's where I'll be flying to and probably staying at.

I plan on going in either 2019 or 2020, with a buddy who has been there for a few weeks once before.

there are some cheap places for sleeping, if you dont mind being in a sleeping pod lol.

If it's Tokyo, there's plenty to do there. The only thing I suggest is do a bit of planning so you're not spending more money on trains than you need to. Or, if you plan to travel around a lot in a day, perhaps look into purchasing a day pass.
