name some of your favorite scenes even if it involved retcon, that made one of your favorite and best scenes ever, as toriyama forgetting has lead to great scenes in the dragonball world in both manga and anime

It hurts to see the "Toriyama's an idiot" thread with so many pages criticizing things that weren't even done by Toriyama and at no one being able to praise his abilities as a writer.
Well, here are my favourite scenes from the manga:
- Goku's KKx3 - KKx4 vs Vegeta. Besides it having a pretty good choreography, it's those kind of small details that made me fell in love with the series. Toriyama took into account the damage the KKx3 dealt to Goku's body, and the next time he had to use the KKx4 to surpass Vegeta (and he couldn't even damage him that much). That not only shows how good he was when designing fighting scenarios, but also how good he was as a writer.

- Goku vs Nappa & A18 vs Vegeta: Two incredible fights where Toriyama manages to introduce a character in a way that hypes him and at the same time, de-hypes him.
In Goku vs Nappa, which was Goku's entrance, Toriyama needed to show how strong Goku had become, but also that he would have problems against Vegeta, so he introduced the "ki disrupting" factor so Nappa could have an upgrade at mid fight. Even with that upgrade, the fight was portrayed in a way that wouldn't kill the hype for Goku but that also showed us the limits of the saiyan.
In Vegeta vs A18 it's the same. It was the introductory fight for the android, but instead of making the android simply stronger than Vegeta he designed a fight where the android's superiority and sense of danger was appreciable to the reader while at the same time not putting her much above the saiyans.
He played with the concepts of having unlimited energy with excellent results.

- Piccolo father vs kid Goku. Not much to comment in how the fight was designed narratively speaking, but it has one of the best fight choreographies of the whole series. Incredible.

- Alien designs. Original, unique and really cool. Freezer's last form, Cell's first and perfect form and kid Bu may be among the best designed characters in any manga only because of how charismatic and unique they are.

I can't pick a favorite thing but I have to say his art style is unique and his designs are awesome

First scene that comes to mind though is super saiyan goku vs Frieza. It's so epic and badass. Two legendary beings fighting on an exploding planet. The setting was perfect. The story surrounding it is great and there is so much build it up to it too

i agree those scenes have to be the best, mine personaly will have to be the kkx20 against frieza, it was such a great scene espically with the musical score in the anime

i think the toriyama drew that scence greatly

In general I love Kid Goku's design, it's probably half of the reason I read Dragon Ball, and as for a specific scene...

Probably Roshi vs Tien, or more specifically about the end of the fight, when Roshi is advising Tien and telling him not to waste his time away. I felt that was one of the more powerful moments in Dragon Ball, just Tien's redemption arc. It's simple but I like it.

Gohan going SSJ2, for me it's just incredible. The build up from when he first hits Raditz, giving the first inkling of something special. To the payoff of him just dominating the cell Jr's and hitting Cell so hard he spits out #18. Bad. a***.

Villain redemotion. The journey and story of Piccolo and Vegeta and their switch from evil to good is wonderful. They also become two of, if not the best characters in the series.

Character theme names. Saiyans as vegetables. The cold family. Bibidi Babidi Buu. The demon instruments. Metal red ribbon army. I'm not sure why, but I've always loved and really appreciated that.

When he does comedy and it isn't forced, it's highly enjoyable.

I also like his naming system. He can make something like "vegetable" or "carrot" sound badass

Toriyama was great about build up too. The original anime could drag sometimes but his manga's pacing for at least for the most part was perfect imo

I like how he knows when to make things dark and when they should be humuorous. There's never any really anti climactic scenes

He also knows how to make very emotional scenes. Prime example? Vegeta's sacrifice.

I agree

Even though we know the dragon balls exist toriyama still somehow managed to make things intense. Looking back it's easy to think that because of the dragon balls the tension isn't there but there are plenty of scenes that still has plenty of emotion and tension when I first watched them or even still do

If I were to praise a few things about Dragon Ball, those would be some very creative character designs and the unique artstyle. Outside of Dragon Ball, his humor is always great, whether he's trying to be sarcastic or innocent, and even when his jokes are a bit mean-spirited, they end up being quite funny.

As for favourite scenes... Any of the tournament fights in the original DB were fun to read, and the action scenes looked pretty awesome at times, mostly the early ones.

Piccolo: Just how many people have you sacrificed?!

Cell: Sacrifice? Hmph, rubbish! On the contrary, it is an honor to become a fraction of my power.
