The topic made my blood boil

Compared to epic characters like Netero, Chrollo, Zeno, Meruem, Killua....YES Gon pales as main lead

But leagues above compared to pathetic junks like Kurosaki-kun (Masked Joker), Luffy (Rubber Slipper), Naruto (Cat-faced brat)

He is not deep, so I can definetly see why you dislike Gon.

Still, I enjoy him as much as Goku

gon is only 11 or 12 years old so i think he is written pretty well considering.

you are doing yourself a big disservice by not carrying on with this anime imo. i think by the end you will really enjoy gon and the development he goes through. even if he isint your favorite character. plus where the story is now (manga) he is pretty much non existent. so if your into the spiders and kurapika you will enjoy that

Yes, Gon is boring. I think that's one of the main reasons why I couldn't be assed reading past the first volume of Hunter x Hunter. When I see Gon, I see a never ending chain of characters like him, who I don't care about in the first place. There's nothing particularly unique, or memorable, or interesting about him in the first place.

Noice sig from Sushi

Yeah, I find Gon boring. Main reason I don't read or watch it. It doesn't have anything to do with his age. Goku and Naruto were about that age at the beginning of their series and they were both written well and are very interesting characters.

Yeah Gon is somewhat of a dull character. But, he is actually somewhat just like Goku (Manga and Super). That is simple, naive and selfish. The difference is that Goku has a lot more badass moments and dialogues (especially in the DUB and Z/Movies). Whereas, Gon has very few. But, he later on does have some small subtle interesting character developments. I honestly think most people get into HxH for the wrong reasons or expectations.

Greetings. I will be your waifu this season.

I don't see any reason to not read/watch the series because of that...

The Goku comparisons are off here, similar characters in ways but completely different series.
Goku is present in virtually every or possibly actually every episode of Dragon Ball, it is his story specifically at that point and largely is for the rest of the series.

Gon is barely the main character of HxH so much as he is one of the most featured characters. You can easily dislike him and still love HxH, he's not in every episode being an annoying s*** like many MC's. His role as MC is often kinda understated.

But still, he's far more interesting than many of them just for the direction his character goes in, he's a naive and fun character that slowly goes in to a very dark place whereas most of them just stay the same forever and basically have no development at all.

Guess HXH is one of those instances where STORY is the hero & its characters are plot devices

Gon was not MC any point in the series for me.

Killua overshadowed him as early as ep 5. Then there's Hisoka during the Tournament. Kurapika just owned York New Arc. Then, Netero & his bunch of maniacs hijacked the entire CA Arc, with Gon sidelined for 90% of the Arc

Its things like these which makes me wanna compare dude to Goku

While original DragonBall WAS about him.

Z was not.

In Saiyan Arc: killed off as early as ep 5 & remained in background close to 25 episodes.

Namek Arc: Hospitalized at Wukong Hospital while Kid Gohan, Krillin & Vegeta took centre stage

Frieza Arc: Again, was background for 75% of the Arc engaging against ONLY Recoome, Ginyu (which was not even a fight) & Frieza.

Android Arc: Contracted virus, defeated & bed-ridden for 20 plus episodes, again sidelined with training & resting segments before being "Main Character" against Perfect Cell for only 4 episodes before Gohan hijacked the complete Arc

Buu Arc: Dead for 80% of 91 Episode, with spotlight on Vegeta, Gotenks, Gohan etc.

Goku & Gon dont need entire Arc to kickass. Just 1 or 2 badass moments are required to elevate their badassery
