Rumor Mill: Ben Affleck Now Wants Out Of Playing THE BATMAN

My Dear Melancholy,

THIS IS A RUMOR NOT OFFICIAL NOR TAKE IT SERIOUSLY UNTIL FURTHER INFO
https://www.comicbookmovie.com/batman/rumor-after-first-stepping-away-as-director-ben-affleck-now-wants-out-of-a148914

This fits right in with Affleck complaining about too many questions and interviews about Batman alongside being upset that people care more about Batman than his other movies.

Quote:

After stepping down as director on The Batman (Matt Reeves is said to be a lock to replace him), a new rumor suggests that Ben Affleck also wants out of the cape and cowl, and to leave the role of The Dark Knight behind him for good.

The report comes from the most recent episode of Collider Movie Talk, as host John Campea maintains that three separate sources have indicated to him that the Live By Night actor wants to stop playing Bruce Wayne/Batman altogether. Apparently, discussions are now taking place with the studio and Affleck is attempting to get out of appearing in the next standalone movie - however, if an agreement can't be reached, that will be his last time portraying the iconic DC hero.

Again, it's best not to read too much into this for the time being (Campea himself cautions that his info may be inaccurate), but would it really come as that big a surprise after the recent developments surrounding the film?

Greetings. I will be your waifu this season.

I really hope this doesn't happen because he was fantastic as Batman...

I think they should do a prequel Batman movie, give Ben a break and let someone play a younger Batman. That would be best I'd say. Dude must be under a lot of pressure to be even slightly considering turning down an iconic role like that.

Especially one that could write away how people feel about Daredevil.

It'd be a shame for the DCEU as well it's already struggling to establish itself, definitely needs Ben's talent as a writer/director.

Perhaps they could get away with Batman becoming injured and Nightwing having to take up the mantle...

He's dealing with too much stuff right now, I can understand why he'd leave this project.

Piccolo: Just how many people have you sacrificed?!

Cell: Sacrifice? Hmph, rubbish! On the contrary, it is an honor to become a fraction of my power.

My Dear Melancholy,

Maybe do a BatFamily movie and keep Batman at a minimal.
Kinda promote it as a Batman movie but pull a Suicide Squad and keep his role small but important.

This is f***ing stupid if he does quit. He was a good Batman/Wayne, and it's going to suck if he's replaced by someone else midway through this DCEU. It'd almost be like replacing Henry Cavill.

Yeah hopefully he sticks around for the fans if nothing else.

Isn't he not directing The Batman movie now either? Can't remember if that was just a rumour, seems they're asking a bit much of him and the many people that hated both BvS and Suicide Squad seem to have put him off a bit.

I think he kind of explained that in the interview where he talked about his sad face during the one with Henry.

Imagine how lame it'd be if they "Killed" Superman so early and then killed Batman in Justice League, the DCEU would probably just die.

Can't think of another actor that could replace Ben at this point.

Ben Affleck wanted to be in this game, so he's gotta play it. He should stop complaining and do his job. I know he's dealing with a lot in his personal life, but he should know to keep them apart.

My Dear Melancholy,

@Steve

He chose to direct it after BvS collapsed. But then he got angry and restarted the script. Once thay happen he scrapped the script and they got someone else to be the director.

Then when promoting his other movies. He complained about too many questions about Batman and that Batman seemed more important than his movies.

I honestly think he didn't know how popular Batman is or didnt know how much of an impact it has.

You'd think he'd realize how important Batman was given the amount of hate he got as far back as when he was first announced he was gonna be Batman. And that was 2 years ago.

Nah I'm sure he knows since he's quite in to comics isn't he? I think he just wasn't expecting so much negativity because 90% of people on the internet seem to choose to be dicks. With Daredevil it was less common to have that many people moaning constantly now people just spam places.

It must be annoying trying to see what fans think and pretty much always getting an angry mob of people whining about the slightest nitpicky problem, any positivity about the DC films has been completely drowned out by negativity and there's no way they're that bad.

Can see how it'd be pretty demoralising to play a role you know you can never really get right enough for people to approve of.

I'm sure he wants to be Batman...who wouldn't, it's as good as playing James Bond but it's probably hard to see it being worth the stress of having to live up to ridiculous expectations while a s***ty studio keeps slicing up what were good movies and making them meh all while you get a huge amount of the blame.

My Dear Melancholy,

Seems like Affleck is still Batman for "The Batman" movie but he's isn't being mentioned at all for the promotions for the movie so far.

Quote:

Reeves' directing job, and Affleck isn't mentioned at all: no quote about the addition, not as the star, as the writer, nothing. That may lead some fans to worry that the rumors are true.

We can confirm via Warner Brothers that Ben Affleck is still attached to star in the film - so don't worry.

The most probable scenario here is the simplest - Occam's Razor - the release focused on Reeves exclusively because that's the actual news here. As noted, it's a very dry release; it actually doesn't mention anyone else involved with the project, aside from WB President and Chief Content Officer Toby Emmerich, who calls the movie "the crown jewel of our DC slate." Reeves is quoted as well about his love for the character, and Batman's creators get a nod. That's it.
