How do you say saiyan? Like how they say in the English dubs? Or do you emphasize the "i" sound? Idk why some people like say it like that. You speak English so just say it like it's said in English |

The right way, "Sigh-an." The way Ryo Horikawa himself says/sings it in "Saiyan Blood." That is the way to say it "in English," just not the incorrect way that one particular badly-made English dub used it. Edited by Kaboom, Feb 14 2017, 02:46 AM.

Why is "sigh-yan" the only right way? |

Because the Japanese word it comes from is pronounced "ya-SIGH," not "ya-SAY." Funimation said it wrong back in the 90's and continues to do say it wrong today, but I have no reason to. Edited by Kaboom, Feb 14 2017, 02:48 AM.

Pronouncing Saiyan the way the English dub does is like saying King Kay instead of King Kai. |

Or as an even better example... "Kay-o-ken." Funimation finally got around to saying that the correct way starting with their dub of Kai (which is not pronounced "Kay" either), and I wish they'd done the same for "Saiyan." But alas, it's probably too ingrained for the wider audience at this point. |

The exact way they say in the Japanese anime: Saiya-jin. |

To be honest, I almost never have to say "Saiyan" out loud. It alternates between which way I say it in my head. |

I use the Malaysian dub's term of Saiya ppl. Saiyan/Saiya-jin isn't correct. |

I think burst limits started that trend too. Burst limits had great dubbing. |

Depends on who I'm speaking with. If I'm casually talking with people whose only exposure to Dragon Ball is the Funimation dub... then I'll pronounce it "Say-in". Everywhere else, "Sigh-an" or "Sigh-a-jin". |

Geez does sigh-yan really sound better to you guys? It just feels so weird coming out I have a question..."saiyan", regardless of how it's pronounced, is not even said outside of the funimation dub is it? Japanese say "saiya-jin". It's not even the same word. So is it fair to say "say-en" is totally wrong? Because just looking at "saiyan" I would think most people would pronounce it "say-en". Why should I pronounce an English original word the same way a Japanese original word is pronounced? Edited by Ssj3vegito96, Feb 14 2017, 05:09 AM.

If you simply read the word "Saiyan" without ever knowing of Dragon Ball... you _should_ read it as "Sigh-an". Kai = Kay? Bai = Bay? Tai = Tay? |
