I read somewhere that in 2013 alone, around $82 billion was donated to churches across the world. Don't forget they don't pay tax.

I don't get the question. You don't need a license to take someone's money if they give it to you voluntarily, which is what tithes and offerings are.

He meant a figurative license.

Another way he could have asked his question is: Is organized religion really just a cash scam?

People give their hard earned money to the church, so the church can relocate priests who got caught diddling kids.

Oh, in that case, yes and no. It can be, and it's a big reason that it exists in the first place, but if the people taking the money genuinely believe in their religion, and the people giving the money also believe, then nobody is being taken advantage of. Just like charities, there are going to be people who attempt to profit from the generosity of others, but there are also a lot of churches and religious organisations that would put the money to good use.

Bill O'Reilly one time kept berating a guy on his show. He said Christianity is not a religion it's a philosophy lol... If that's the case than all the Christian sects owe a lot in back taxes..

Here's the video if anyone is interested.. it's funny

EDIT: LOL @ 1:08 .. I forgot about that part!
