Mass Effect; Andromeda + original series

I didn't see a topic for this but anyone plan on getting Andromeda? I definitely am but I'm only pre-ordering like, the special edition? The one that's a step up from the standard game. I think it's weird that higher than that the rewards are pretty much multiplayer loot boxes. I don't do multiplayer so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

But, regardless, I love the entire series and I'm interested in how Andromeda is gonna go

I am. I am rather curious what this new galaxy will give us. Hopefully something other than Reapers or something based on Reapers.

You think maybe the Geth ventured into it? It isn't like they have to deal with things like life expentancy so they could always just make the trip low and slow.

Yeah, I could totally see that. Geth have better tech too so it would make sense. I haven't caught up on everything but I thought your team was supposed to be like, the only ones from our home galaxy? But I've seen a lot of the same species in Andromeda.

I also hope they don't go back to Reapers. I doubt they will but I could see maybe, one or two? Just because the Reapers were in dark space to begin with so it's plausible one might be over there but I hope they don't make it a huge plot point. At the very least, Bioware seems to want to divert from the original game's story, and that of Shepard's, and Shepard is closely tied to the Reapers, so I think we're good there.

I want to point out that I am ok with finding Reaper corpses from long dead battlefields. But I don't want whatever appears to be the grand villain to be Reapers again.

As for the travel, we are the only confirmed transport to Andromeda from Milky Way but that does not mean there aren't any unknown explorator fleets that were never saw again.

I hope at some point we can play as other races like Dragons Age at some point. I am ok with being human all the time but the alternate racial choices could add some real replayability.

Ah, that makes sense. About there being other transports. Although you would think that crossing galaxies like that would be extremely rare. I'd love to meet a whole new host of alien races rather than a bunch of the ones we've already seen.

From the original series, I kinda wish they had expanded more on Asari. There's that one scene on Ilium in me2 where you can listen to the npcs talk in the bar. They're throwing a bachelor party for their friend and they all claim (the human, the turian, and the salarian) that the asari dancing looked like their own race. and I think it was hinted that asari appearance is different depending who is looking at them and I'm just lol that's messed up and really interesting, biologically.

And I definitely agree about the races thing! Although in Dragon Age I tend to stick to elves :') but I'd love to play a Turian or a Krogan or a Salarian... I'm much more interested in space races than fantasy ones I think. I think like, Star Wars does other races well, in regards to biology and not making everyone just look like different colored humans, you know? but they still fall into that sometimes.

Admittedly if I am allowed to play as a Salarian I damn well better get the chance to be like Mordin.

Excellent character. Mode of speech unique, memorable. *deep inhale* Deserves an expy.

the very model of a scientist salarian

tbh I think I wanna replay 3 again but I've been having some trouble getting my mods to work for my custom shepard. it's just some hair textures but it looks wrong without it lol I feel like dragon age gets way more attention but personally I prefer mass effect

I'm a huge fan of Mass Effect so I'm definitely getting this. Might even replay the trilogy before the game releases.

Greetings. I will be your waifu this season.

I haven't looked much in to this game but do you reckon I could get it and enjoy it despite having not played the others?

I know bits and pieces about it but the gameplay looks pretty abysmal so never really got in to them, currently watching a playthrough of the second game. Sure there's plenty stuff to read to catch up anyway.

I'm gonna consider getting it if I can manage to beat the previous games first. I bought them in a trilogy boxset some time ago but haven't really touched them as they're not my usual style of game.

Hopefully this year I can change that though and maybe get Andromeda for christmas.

I think you'd be just fine tbh. They say Andromeda is not going to have Shepard's story at all. In fact, it's an entirely different galaxy. There might be certain culture facts or history they mention about the races or something, but it's nothing you wouldn't be able to piece together if they do I'm sure.

Yeah I see that there's a huge amount of lore in the series but it doesn't seem like you really need to know it all.

Though of course it'd be bad if loads of newbies hop on board and they water later games down so people who pay attention to the whole thing have less.

The story telling seems good anyway.

Especially how you can go all Captain Kirk on the aliens

a lot of the lore is supplemental I suppose and then anything you really need, to make informed decisions, they tend to give you before the mission. I really enjoy reading it all though

I've always enjoyed Bioware's storytelling. It's great to see them branching out and improving how they write and the kinds of characters they include. tbh I'd love to write games for them some day

Yeah I think it's cool how much there is.

It's not just like "There are red aliens...and there are blue aliens. The red ones are bad the blue ones are good, GO"

They all have fleshed our history, motives, personalities and physiologies. A lot of game series seem to get lazy on the world building these days.

I really appreciate how most of their alien races aren't just human + skin recolor lol as a writer, I'm fascinated how species can develop differently on different worlds. it's just... seems rather impossible to me, imo, that aliens would look anything like us ? evolution is way too diverse for that

Bioware is pretty good about world building though. You can see some common themes in their writing (a friend of mine recently pointed out to me that mass effect is inquisition in space, or maybe it's better to say inquisition is mass effect in fantasy, but still), and of course there are things to improve on, but I've always enjoyed what they produce. I don't know if it's just me since I rp in it, but Dragon Age seems way more fleshed out. I wish they had more detail in Mass Effect haha
