A four way battle, which one of those four is the smarter in general and what's the chain between them?

Lelouch, he's the only one that didn't lose in the end because of his mind.

Lelouch>Schneizel>Light=L

Yeah Lelouch didn't lost but that doesn't mean he's smarter than the others. The only good opponent he ever faced was Schneizel in the very end he was never challenged by anyone else in intelligence.

While in Death Note Light had to face L, Near, Mello in a constant battle of minds. So I'm not sure if the fact that Lelouch won implies he's smarter than the rest.

Lelouch:

* Outmaneuvered Mao, a telepath. Twice.
* Defeating Britannia's forces on a regular basis with inferior forces thanks to great military strategies.
* A good user of the batman gambit.
* Defeated Schneizel. Need to say more?
* Conquered one half of the world, and then when he was betrayed by the very people he had been helping, took over the other half of the world. And then he went for broke and re-conquered the half of the world he'd taken over before. Then Lelouch arranges his own assasination in order to let the sins and hatred of the world die with him.

Light:

* His memory gambit. Enough said.
* Outdid L during said memory gambit. First, he's the one who finds the data pointing toYotsuba's guilt, which the Yotsuba members themselves thought was impossible. Then in a after watching the Yotsuba meeting, L is prepared to allow innocent people to die just to get evidence on them. Light then comes up with a plan: he calls up Namikawa (having deduced he likely isn't the new Kira), flawlessly manipulates him into switching sides, and gets him to delay the killings long enough for the task force to get evidence. Even L acknowledges it as awesome.
* Light's exploiting a murderous bank robber, the Death Note rules, and Ryuk in order to find out the name of the person tailing him and then killing off the entire FBI task force by manipulating said tail.
* Eliminating two of his biggest threats, L and Rem, in a single go by putting the latter into a sadistic choice.

L:

* Used a prisoner sentenced to die to pinpoint Kira's location within the Kanto and found out that he can't kill anyone without the name and the face of the victim. Plus, as soon as he began to pace together several clues from Light's pattern, he managed to pin points Light as Kira. Although he needed evidences to prove that Light was Kira.
* Prepared for his death by appointing apprentices, and giving them all of the informations about Kira's case. And they win.

Schneizel:

Able to strategically rival and even outsmart Lelouch on some occasions, though he lost.

So, I'd say:

Lelouch > L > Light > Schneizel, though they're really close.

Light's only advantages over L were just making fake rules in the Death Note and having more knowledge of the Death Note. L is probably smarter than Light, but I have them about the same. I don't see what Light has done though that would make him smarter than Lelouch.

He also forced L to get him out of jail unless you count that in the same category as the fake rules stunt he pulled. Lelouch is incredibly smart don't get me wrong and I ha e him above Light but L as well? I'm not sure.
