Why do haircuts cost so much more for women?

Greetings. I will be your waifu this season.

Me and my gf got haircuts today.

Mine took like 10 minutes, got like half my hair cut off and it was styled quite nice.
Gf's took maybe 3 minutes, only had her ends trimmed.

Hers was £14 and mine was only £6 :o_O:

Don't think I've ever had to pay more than £6 for a haircut. But women seem to spend £30 regularly on a light trim and a bit of hair spray.

Seems odd that it's not something there's much outrage over, compared to things like the tampon tax.

The only reason I can think of is that women tend to care more for their hair so a bit more expertise needs to go in to it whereas you can just shave most men's heads and that's fine.
But even so fairly simple seeming cuts cost so much more for women. In the UK at least not sure about elsewhere.

The answer is simple: because of the patriarchy.

Beauty has been marketed to women so massively that pretty much everything that changes a woman's appearance is incredibly overpriced. They all know that your options are limited. You can wither pay their price and look good......or do it yourself and look good. And even if you do it yourself, all the products cost as much if not more.

It goes all the way to how one who cuts hair is called: men who get their hair cut by another (male or female) is called merely either a haircutter or a barber.

But a woman? Her attendant is instead called a STYLIST, as if she is a piece of art that is being crafted on that seat. And works of art always cost an arm and a leg. Look at any art gallery for proof.

Simply put, the reason a woman's hair cut costs so much more is because business is monopolized to make it happen. And not enough cheaper options exist to force a change in position by ignoring the high-price choices.
A Shadow is merely Darkness in the presence of Light

That's weird. I don't know about here in the US, actually I don't know how much any haircut costs. I've never paid for one, I get every haircut free.

My serious answer is that female haircuts generally take a lot more work and skill. Most men will just want a trim, whereas most women will want a trim (which is more difficult due to longer hair generally), layering, thinning, and styling.

The reason your girlfriend's was so much more expensive is because stylist's usually charge a minimum fee.

I used to layer and thin out my hair by myself. Must've ssaved a good 200 squids over the course of 3 yrs doing that

Now I don't need to worry about getting it thinned bc getting old and it does it by itself fml Im ugly with no swag

That's the main thing I'm getting at her, my girlfriends was nearly thrice as much and it took hardly any time to do and hardly any hair was taken off.

It's a bit daft.

If a woman is getting her hair washed, straightened, dyed, all that noise then yeah a high price compared to a haircut for a dude is fine. I don't know a single man who gets more than just a cut, generally women get more done.
But when they don't it still costs more...

If it's just a trim the minimum fee should be the same unless you have a crap ton of hair. It's really odd that it isn't.

It takes a mere second for treasure to turn to trash.

When you said "3" I was expecting a penis reference. You surprise me Buuberries.

Women's hair also tends to be much longer. I think OFG nailed this answer. Since she's supposedly female. But I won't assume her gender.
