Do you consider America a great country and empire? Would you consider America being greater than the British empire or Roman empire or Mongolian empire? |

Great is a subjective term. However, The United States is definitely an influential country throughout the world. It is a primary, first world country both in its social and political standing. There's no doubt about this. There is a huge level of influence and even esteem that comes from the USA. Be it good, be it bad, be it true, be it false. And the USA is young too as the way we see it. A little under 250 years, the USA was basically 13 colonies ruled by the British. Around 30 or so years later, we truly start going past the plains and I think it's in the 1960s that the final State is annexed into the country. I think it was Hawaii but don't quote me on that. We've been through an entire civil war. Something that in many cases will completely break a country a part. The USA is obviously a country that is looked up to highly across the world. You could probably show anyone a picture of the President and even if they don't know what he or she does or what their purpose is. They can probably immediately tell you, that is the President of the United States. I mean, in the end you have a country taking up 1/3 of a continent, with strong ties to both Mexico and Canada. It's influence, be it military, social, political, etc.swings across both sides of the oceans. It is one of the big men on campus and the world knows that. How long will it last? Who knows, in a hundred years, the USA might be made up of 50 individual countries with their own set of rules and laws. |

The British Empire had control over a almost quarter of the entire world. It controlled approximately 24% of the Earth's land area. The Mongol Empire is second to that controlling about 16% and the Roman Empire, although very well known and influential during its time only controlled about 3%. As far as America goes it doesn't even make the list because I wouldn't really consider it to be an empire. The USA is a highly influential country with a relatively high standard of living compared to most of the rest of the world, but it is more of a capitalist oriented empire if you can even call it that. Most of its international influence comes in the fact that there are big American corporations like Google, McDonalds and Starbucks all over the globe and as much power as they might have individually, these do not equate to America ruling over the government of the countries they are based in. Whether or not America is a great country I don't know. I've been there many times and I do really enjoy visiting but I have toyed with the idea of living there and there are just some things about the way the country operates that would really bother me if I were to live there, especially now Trump is in charge. That and all the racial, religious and LGBT problems that a lot of the country seems to have. |

It is hard to say it is greater than some of the biggest empires ever. The British Empire, the Roman Empire, and other empires had control over multiple areas. I think it is too soon for the United States to have a big final say on it's legacy. It is still a young country, and who knows what the future holds for it? |

No. I don't think it ever really was "great", but, the term is subjective. We have a lot to work on. Definitely not the "Greatest in the world" as we like to boast. But is it a good country? Yeah, I suppose. We have enough opportunity to be grateful for. |
