Preface: I know nothing about TVs.

I'm going to be moving in the spring, but with black Friday coming up, now's the perfect time to buy a TV. I need something decently sized that will be good for watching TV and gaming, but nothing too fancy. I'm on a budget. I was browsing through Best Buy's new deals and saw some good ones.

That LG TV for $399.99 seems like a good deal, but what do you techies think?

That's actually a really good deal. Suggest getting a Smart TV for the apps like Netflix and otherwise. If you don't you'd have to buy a separate device to run those. It's worth it.

When it says, "With chrome cast built in" that's basically the same thing as smart except you'd need Android phone to get the most out of it.

If you're using Apple TV, then don't worry about any of that and get the best size/price.

One other thing I will mention is that most of these tv's will have s***ty sound. When you go to the store to purchase play with the sound on the ones you're interested in. Otherwise you might end up buying a sound bar or a set of speakers on top of the purchase.

I was going to just buy this LG one online since it looks like such a good deal. Do you think it has decent sound? If not, I can always add a soundbar, right?

I have a PS4, so running things like Netflix and Hulu shouldn't be a problem no matter what TV I choose. I think.

You'll have to try it out to find out. Regardless of the power it says it outputs in the specs, it could be muffled by things like the orientation of the speaker, or the case material for the TV.

OH and, stay away from Insignia. That's BestBuy's money monster cheap brand. They make the most revenue off that brand and they usually suck.
Another suggestion is, don't get suckered into buying any cables from Best Buy. Buy all your cables off Monoprice.com for the length you need. You'll save on average $40-100 by doing so.
If they say things like, "ITS GOLD PLATED", drop to your knees and start crying like they just gave you bad news. It's not usually worth the price. Best Buy cables are another area of pure revenue and are typically marked up substantially more than they should be.

Haha, okay. I trust you. I don't know what most of that means, but I will do as I am bid. My ex worked at Best Buy, and her employee discount gave her otherwise expensive cables for a few bucks because they were apparently so overpriced.

I'll probably order that TV online this week or something and then order the cables on Monoprice.

That was my assumption, but he made me question it. Now I'm not sure.

Unless you can get that discount. I used to work at BB too which is how I come up with this advice.

Flashy Thing!

I've never bought a TV or monitor that came with a HDMI cable, that would be nice though.
