I'm hoping so. My laptop is having trouble loading webpages tonight. YouTube videos default to 240p and won't run in 720p or 1080p without constantly buffering. I've tried disconnecting and then reconnecting to Wi-Fi, unplugging the router and plugging it back in again, and even running a scan with Malwarebytes just in case. None of that worked. My Wi-Fi signal is showing full bars. When I go into system monitor, it shows "network speed" for Wi-Fi fluctuating anywhere between 8 KB/s and 130 KB/s, usually between 70 and 120, but I don't know what those numbers mean as far as performance is concerned. All of the other numbers are normal. I'm using a newish MSI laptop that has never had this issue before, so I'm assuming it's the Wi-Fi, but I'm unsure how to fix it. Usually the Internet here is great. This is very frustrating, and I don't want it to keep happening. Edit: I've also tried restarting my computer. Edited by Doggo Champion 2k17, Nov 3 2016, 01:51 AM.

What are the results of an internet speed test? http://www.speedtest.net/ It could be your provider experiencing issues. Check your local area for outages. |

How long did you unplug the router before plugging it back in again? Waiting a few seconds might not work. Sometimes it takes 30-60 seconds or even a couple minutes. I used to have a similar issue where the router just couldn't keep up with all of the devices my roommates and I were using simultaneously, so we'd get s***ty connection or kicked off altogether. I don't know if that's relevant at all here though. I'm sure you don't have 10+ devices connecting here. |

I only unplugged it for a few seconds. The only device that should be running right now is my laptop. I'm about to go to bed, but if this is still an issue tomorrow, I'll leave the router unplugged for a while longer and see if that does the trick. Who knows, it could be an issue that resolves overnight. |

Is your wifi-connected phone slow too? Try a speedtest on it. If it's slow too then your ISP is having issues with load right now. Not much you can do apart from trying to sweet talk them into providing your line with priority. |

There are occasions where the line coming in drops in power below the spec but still operates. This causes the modem to run slower than it should. If you have a modem i suggest unplugging it for a few minutes and trying again. Happens to me on occasion. I normally get 50mbps down but when the power dips on a channel ibsuddenly get around 2mbps. Also your wifi signal strength being full bars has little do with speed, because if you had 1 bar it would still be near full speed. If yoy lose speed its usually never your wifi routers fault, more the modem and uncoming line. Edited by Rockman, Nov 3 2016, 10:11 AM.
