What policies would you want introduced to help PREVENT police violence against different race? If you were in charge, how would you handle this and who would you put in charge to get things done?

Yeah.. Damn that First amendment and it's violent consequences.

I agree the media is corrupt, bias, and they do fan the flames, but that is an unrealistic answer.

Sadly, racism between two people can only be changed by changing the minds of those two people.

However, something I would do to fight racism would be to set up an ethics committee to monitor all levels of Government and Law enforcement and fire those whom are shown to be racist or corrupt. The media will cover the ethics probe which would help calm the die hard racists out there and let them know that changes are being implemented to stop racism at a Governmental level.

Children should be taken from there parents at birth and given to foster parents of a different race.

That should solve all the issues.

What are the root causes of racism?

Ignorance, jealousy, fear and a feeling of superiority.

So how does one deal with all of these causes?

One at a time.

Ignorance is countered by better education and social inclusion. We need to diversify more and learn about each others cultures through personal interaction. Humans are naturally sociable creatures, so if they are mixing, they will be learning through casual conversations.

Jealousy usually because of a concern about jobs. Why does that person get more money than me? Why do they have a bigger house? Why are they treated better? People are always going to be jealous, but you can reduce this sort of thinking by increasing basic pay rates, creating more jobs and making damn sure everyone is treated the same way by the authorities regardless of colour. The latter requires better diversity training across all services. Healthcare, schools, police, everything.

Fear. This is fixed similarly to the other two problems. You can make people feel less afraid if they understand more and don't have to worry about job security or crime.

The feeling of superiority among some people? How to deal with that problem? Find a way to decrease poverty amongst minorities and increase education. This way the racist people will see these groups they once looked down on rising up in society enough so that they can no longer feel so superior.

Over simplified of course. It would take a heck of a lot more micro management, investment and cross party cooperation to do all this.

What will you do when you get old?

So wait, I'm seeing people comment on racist people in general, and the title seems to imply that but the thread itself implies this is about the police.

Is it about the police or is it about racist people?

Sorry, it's not about racists people, i'm just asking you if were in charge or have the power or knowledge, how would you prevalent racists violence? Prevention is better than a cure. All we seeing now is bandages.

From a political view, if you were elected as President, who would you want in charge as Police Commissioner or who would you want in the senate presenting your agenda? etc......

What if I don't want to prevent racist violence?

Really, though, why racist violence in particular? A white man killing a black man is no worse than a black man killing a black man, and vice versa.

Pelador for PM.

I don't really see the need to single out the 'violence' part. Obviously if you had to choose, then somebody killing somebody because of their race is much worse than somebody calling someone a name because of their race, but both are rooted in the same problem: racism. You can't just prevent racist violence, you have to prevent racism, the violence is just a product of that.

In regards to preventing racism, I'm not really sure whether a set policy can be implemented that would 'fix' things. Which isn't to say that policies combating racism shouldn't be implemented, of course they should, but just implementing those policies would not change the attitudes of society as a whole. That can only be changed over time. Kids have to grow up in more diverse and accepting environments and, as harsh as it sounds, racist adults that grew up in a less tolerant era need to die off. As that happens, the paradigm will gradually shift and we'll have a more tolerant society.

Because racists violence was on the talk on people's lips on the news with the police shootings. Let me be more specific, i'm talking about racists violence in all races not just racists cops against Blacks or Latinos, i'm talking about both ways we need to stop this.

And why would you want to live in a society where people are judged because of their skin color?

That just leads to inbreeding, cultural stagnation, cultural ignorance and economic problems. People around the world need to mix more, get out from their little bubbles and experience the world.

I completely agree, but it was just something I was thinking about what could prevent racist violence.
